To promote “Mad Max: Fury Road,” Warner Bros. Pictures Canada set up a “dusty car wash” in downtown Toronto so people could get the movie franchise’s trademark filthy, beaten-up look for their own cars.
The Dustier the Better – A Mad Max: Fury Road Experience
A slice of downtown Toronto was transformed into a post-apocalyptic playground—complete with scorched metal, pyrotechnics, and clouds of coloured smoke. At the heart of the chaos stood The Dusty Car Wash, an immersive stunt where everyday vehicles became rolling tributes to the Wasteland.
Drivers were invited to roll in and have their cars coated in a fine layer of cinematic dust. From there, a team of professional artists turned each dusty surface into a canvas, painting skulls, flames, gears, quotes, and even the film’s title and release date. Once transformed, these cars roamed the streets as gritty, mobile billboards—each one a tribute to the world of Fury Road.
The stunt, conceived by Toronto’s Lowe Roche in collaboration with Warner Bros. Pictures Canada, Hollywood set dressers, and street artists, brought the spirit of Mad Max roaring into the city—dust, rust, and all.
